The Cosmos Ranch Foundation is the new location of the Austin Permaculture Guild. It is a Spiritual Church whose mission is to support the needs of the community. It is situated on 40 acres
just East of Austin/downtown. For easy access, it is only 20 minutes
from East Cesar Chavez. The Cosmos Ranch Foundation is the second
location for the Austin Permaculture Guild and regularly holds
permaculture courses and events. The geodesic zome dome will be indoor
venue space for permaculture workshops, yoga, breathwork, meditation,
ecstatic dance, retreats, ceremony, and more.
We recently built an earthen floo into a unique and beautiful structure, the geodesic zome dome (design by Trillium Domes).
Already onsite we also have a large poultry farm with chickens, ducks, and geese, a beautiful two acre pond, a guest house, 4 RV spots, 33,000 gallons of rain water catchment, and permaculture gardens. Plans to build a 1 acre permaculture companion planted market
garden and food forest are being made for the Fall of this year.
The foundation of this structure is situated on a rubble filled trench with 18″ of dry stacked stone above grade. The dry stack is comprised of massive stone boulders harvested from onsite. These boulders are mostly made up of amber calcite geodes. This rock was excavated during the installation of the geo-thermal AC/Heat system in the main house on the property. The rubble filled trench and dry stack are ancient building methods that are resistant to earthquakes and flooding.
